MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV

A great piece of MIDI hardware from 1999. Can act as a hub for routing MIDI between up to 8 devices, plus another device connected via USB.

Using the MIDI Timepiece AV with a Mac in 2024

You can still connect a Timepiece AV (with USB) to your Mac on Sonoma, but MOTU doesn't make that obvious on their website. If you go to the Support page for the MIDI Timepiece, the most recent software they list for download is from 2017, and doesn't work on a modern Mac.

But, if you visit the support page for the MIDI Express XT (USB) (a much newer piece of hardware from MOTU), you can download a modern version of the MOTU MIDI Installer, which actually contains the MIDI Timepiece AV drivers as well as MOTU's ClockWorks software. Just download it, run it, and make sure you check the box to include installing the drivers for the TimePiece.

After you do that, the Timepiece will show up as a MIDI device on your Mac, and you can run ClockWorks in order to create new routing configurations on your Timepiece.

Thanks to MOTU for continuing to support this old hardware on modern systems.
